A few weeks back we took a drive just to enjoy the colors. We wanted to take advantage of a beautiful, if windy, fall day. Though our destination was on the sheltered side of the peninsula, we found that the cold wind was almost too much to bear. But, to our delight, two freighters were bunkered down just off-shore waiting out the gale.
Rachel snapped a few photos and the kids swung for about a minute and a half before the wind forced us back to the shelter of our minivan for a quiet ride home.
This is the lighthouse at Portage Lake's south entry in White City. Usually the rough water is on the Superior side, but here it's on the Portage side. |
Ella says, "It was a cold day. It felt like it was freezing. I loved swinging, though."
Elisabeth says, "I was cold. I look like I was sad."

Great pictures. Thanks, the Barnhart blog still has some life. I think facebook is stealing our readers.
ReplyDeleteAnd what did Fletcher have to say? Neat pictures, but does look cold! Thank you:)
ReplyDeleteI am a little disillusioned (I wished the blog comment section had spell check) I thought when it got cold in the UP the UP'ers just jumped into Lake Superior to warm up. It can't be colder than 32 degrees right? And that might be a lot warmer than the rest of the UP. When it really gets cold they call in a Coast Guard ice breaker to open up the swimming holes.
ReplyDeleteI like seeing these pictures, too. (trying to get back to regularly check the blog again).
ReplyDeleteI especially love tiny Fletcher romping in the background of that top photo.
Ditto, Ben. I'm not keeping up with viewing the blogs lately either, and I know there have been many good posts, including some very yummy posts on the food blog!
ReplyDeleteI don't know why you think Fletcher is tiny in this photo - he's half the length of the freighter.
ReplyDeleteThis looks awesome! I must've missed seeing this post during football season.
